Free AI Courses in Hindi from IIT Madras: What's Inside and Who Should Join

IIT Madras offers six free "AI for All" courses in Hindi on the government's SWAYAM Plus portal. Each runs 25 to 45 hours, needs no coding, and has an optional paid proctored exam for a certificate. The Hindi registration window closed on 26 January 2026, and I could not confirm a new one on 1 November 2026.

That last line matters, because most articles about these courses still read like the launch is happening this week. It is not. If you want the full picture of what is free and what is worth paying for, start with our guide to the best free AI courses in India. This post is narrower: what IIT Madras actually put in Hindi, who each course is for, whether you can join today, and how to check without getting scammed.

I checked IIT Madras's own press releases, the SWAYAM Plus portal and the news coverage on 1 November 2026. Where I could not confirm something, I say so.

The six free AI courses in Hindi that IIT Madras offers

IIT Madras announced Hindi versions of six free AI courses on 22 January 2026. The courses are part of its "AI for All" initiative on SWAYAM Plus, a Ministry of Education platform that IIT Madras runs. All six are free to access, and IIT Madras says you need no prior AI or coding knowledge.

Each course takes 25 to 45 hours. IIT Madras does not give a separate duration for each one, so check the course page before you plan your weekends.

Look at that list again. These are subject-focused courses, not "learn ChatGPT for your business" courses. Nothing in the published descriptions says they teach you to use AI tools at work. That is not a criticism, but it changes who should sign up.

Can you join today? The honest status

Here is what I could verify, with dates:

Item

What I found

Hindi courses registration deadline

26 January 2026 (IIT Madras press release and Careers360, both 22 January 2026)

Earlier deadline for the original batch

10 October 2025 (IIT Madras press release, 9 September 2025)

Old course link

The old address swayam-plus.swayam2.ac.in now redirects to swayamplus.education.gov.in; the AI for All course page at the new address returned an error (404) when I opened it on 1 November 2026

Catalogue check

Page 1 of the 24-page catalogue showed an "AI for Educators K12 Special drive" (English, free) and no Hindi AI for All course. I did not check pages 2 to 24

Newest article I found

11 July 2026 (EducationPost). Nothing from the last 30 days

My reading: the batches run in registration windows, and I could not find an open one for the Hindi courses on 1 November 2026. That is not proof that nothing is open. The catalogue lists 283 courses and enrolment dates do not show on the listing cards. It means you should check the live portal, not trust an old article, including this one.

IIT Madras has reported strong interest. EducationPost (11 July 2026) quotes figures of "nearly 4.2 lakh registrations" for the first batch and "around 50,000" for the second. These are registration numbers, not completion numbers. Many people sign up for free courses and never finish, so do not read them as proof the courses work for everyone.

Which of the Hindi AI courses suits a working professional

I have only the published course descriptions, not the lessons themselves, so treat this as guidance, not a review.

  • AI in Accounting is the closest fit if you work in commerce, accounts or finance, since IIT Madras lists it for commerce and management learners.
  • AI for Educators fits teachers, trainers and coaching-institute owners.
  • AI/ML using Python is the most technical title. IIT Madras says no prior coding is needed, but the course name tells you Python is involved. If you want to avoid code completely, think twice.
  • AI in Physics and AI in Chemistry are written for students and faculty in those subjects. If you are a salaried professional in another field, they are unlikely to help your day job.
  • Cricket Analytics with AI is a fun entry point if you like data and sport, but IIT Madras does not say who it targets.

If your goal is simple, such as using AI tools to save time at work or in your business, a free university course may not be the shortest path. That is not a knock on IIT Madras. It is a matter of fit.

How to check enrolment safely (step by step)

  1. Type the address yourself: swayamplus.education.gov.in. Do not click a link from WhatsApp, a YouTube comment or an ad.
  2. Find the AI courses. Use the catalogue and search for "AI for All" or filter by Hindi. The portal says it supports 12 Indian languages.
  3. Open each course page. Enrolment status and dates are not shown on the listing cards, so you must open the page.
  4. Read the certificate terms before paying. The IIT Madras releases I read say certification is optional, uses a proctored online exam and costs a "nominal fee", but they do not state the amount. Do not rely on a figure from a blog.
  5. Create your profile only on the official site. The portal itself warns: "Always register only through swayamplus.education.gov.in" and to beware of phishing emails.
  6. Ignore anyone asking for payment to "reserve a seat". Learning on these courses is free. Only the optional exam has a fee, and you pay it on the official portal.

If a course is closed, look for an announcement of the next batch on the IIT Madras news page rather than joining a waiting list on a third-party site.

Free options to use while you wait

One more free option exists. YUVA AI for ALL was launched by MeitY under the IndiaAI Mission and covered by Business Today on 21 November 2025. It is free, runs about 4.5 hours in six sections, and gives a Government of India certificate. It is available on FutureSkills Prime and iGOT Karmayogi.

Language is the catch. The Business Today article does not state which languages are offered, and the FutureSkills Prime page I opened shows a language dropdown without listing the options in readable text. So I cannot tell you Hindi is available. Open the enrolment page and see whether Hindi appears before you commit.

Where free courses stop and a hands-on course helps

Free AI courses in Hindi and English give you structure and a recognised name. What they usually do not give you is a finished project that saves you money this month. If you want to learn AI by building something useful for your own work, without writing code, that is what our beginner course is for.

Zero To AI's World's Easiest AI Course costs ₹1,499 (price checked on 1 November 2026 on the course page). It is self-paced, with 45 lessons over 4 hours, and each module ends with a real build instead of a quiz. The course page does not list a certificate or the language of instruction, so check the page for current details before you buy.

If you are still deciding between paid and free, our comparison of free vs paid AI courses in India lays out the trade-offs, and our no-code AI learning roadmap in Hindi-English shows a simple order to learn things in.

Frequently asked questions

Are the IIT Madras free AI courses in Hindi really free?

Yes, the learning itself is free. IIT Madras describes all six courses as free to access. The only cost is the optional certification, which needs a paid, proctored online exam. IIT Madras calls the fee "nominal" but does not state an amount in the releases I read.

Do I need to know coding to join?

IIT Madras says no prior knowledge of AI or coding is required, and basic digital literacy is enough. One course, AI/ML using Python, involves Python by name, so expect some code exposure there even if you start from zero.

Is the certificate free?

No. The certificate is optional and requires passing a paid online proctored exam. The courses can be taken without it. I could not find the exam fee in IIT Madras's releases, so check the course page on the official portal before you pay anything.

Can I enrol in the free AI courses in Hindi right now?

I could not confirm it. The registration window for the Hindi courses closed on 26 January 2026, and the old course page returned an error on 1 November 2026. Check swayamplus.education.gov.in directly for the current batch and its dates.

Which course should a complete beginner start with?

IIT Madras does not rank the courses. Match the subject to your field: AI in Accounting for commerce, AI for Educators for teaching. If none fits, YUVA AI for ALL at about 4.5 hours is a lighter first step, once you confirm the language you need.
